Overview
Skardu is the gateway to some of Pakistan’s most dramatic landscapes. This expedition takes you across the Indus, into the cold desert of Katpana, and up to the Deosai Plains — a vast alpine plateau at over 4,000 metres. The journey combines trekking, camping, and cultural encounters in Baltistan.
Itinerary
Day 1 — Islamabad to Skardu (Flight)
Morning flight to Skardu (1 hour, weather permitting). Afternoon acclimatisation walk. Overnight in Skardu.
Day 2 — Skardu Valley & Katpana Desert
Explore Skardu Valley — visit Katpana Cold Desert, Satpara Lake, and Shigar Fort. Evening preparation for Deosai trek.
Day 3 — Trek to Deosai Plains
Drive to Sadpara village. Begin trek into Deosai National Park. Camp at the edge of the plains. (Trek: 4–5 hours)
Day 4 — Deosai Exploration
Full day exploring Deosai Plains — Sheosar Lake, wildlife spotting (Himalayan brown bear, ibex, golden eagle). Camp at Ali Malik Mar.
Day 5 — Deosai to Skardu
Trek out to Chilam checkpoint. Drive back to Skardu. Rest and cleanup.
Day 6 — Manthokha Waterfall & Khaplu
Visit Manthokha Waterfall. Drive to Khaplu — walk through the old town and visit Khaplu Palace.
Day 7 — Return to Islamabad
Morning flight to Islamabad. Arrival by midday.

Difficulty
Challenging — requires good physical fitness. High altitude (up to 4,200m). Previous trekking experience recommended.
